
One school commission and… 44,000 students!
The Commission scolaire de Laval (CSDL), one of the largest in Quebec, serves some 44,000 French students by way of 52 primary schools, 14 secondary schools, 8 professional training centres and 3 adult education centres. The CSDL is the number 1 employer of the city with no less than 6,500 employees, 3,600 of whom are teachers.
A dynamic college in the image of the city
The Collège Montmorency welcomes 6,600 students on its campus each year. It is the only public CEGEP to offer programs in “Fire Security Techniques”, “Orthopaedic and prostheses Techniques” and “Museum Techniques”.
September 2011: Opening of the new U of M “campus”
The University of Montreal which already offers programs in Laval will see the number of courses it offers grow significantly in the fall of 2011, as students will inaugurate the new campus of the University of Montreal in Laval.
This project with a cost of over $50 million consists of a 6 floor building with an area of 20,500 square meters. It forms part of the complexe de la Cité du Savoir and is steps away from the Montmorency metro station. The Laval arm of the University of Montreal will offer the popular programs of nursing science, pre-school education and primary school teaching.
UQAM…also in Laval!
Students wishing to pursue their studies closer to their place of residence may enrol at the UQAM-LAVAL centre which offers several courses in more than 10 certificate programs.

Daycare places for all the tots
Children are a priority in Laval. The city has some 40 CPE’s (centres de la petite enfance), offering close to 10,000 daycare places.
